Clinical Supervision & Consulting for Therapists
Clinical Supervision & Consulting for Therapists (Mental Health Counselors, NY Diagnostic Privilege)
For pre-licensed and licensed counselors in New York seeking diagnostic privilege, Shakira O’Garro, LMHC-D, LPCC, LPC, NCC offers trauma-informed, reflective supervision with a focus on professional development, ethical practice, and working with complex client presentations including chronic illness, medical trauma, and faith-integrated care.
Consultation is one-to-one work between clinicians, focused on a specific case, a modality you’re learning to apply, or a population you’ve started seeing more of but aren’t yet sure how to work with. You bring the clinical questions, and we work through them together. Whether we meet for an hour at a time or settle into another cadence that fits your needs, I will support you in gaining the knowledge and expertise to better serve your clients.
Much of my consultation work is with clinicians treating women who have endometriosis, PMDD, and medical trauma. These presentations are common and routinely under-addressed in graduate training, and they call for an understanding of how chronic, dismissed, and physically painful conditions shape a client’s relationship to her own body and to the medical systems that have often failed her. That work extends to chronic illness more broadly and to terminal illness, including support for clinicians whose clients are facing advanced diagnoses such as Stage 4 cancer.
I also consult on faith-integrated care: how to recognize a client’s faith as clinically relevant material and work with it directly, ethically, and with confidence.
Finally, I work with clinicians preparing to enter private practice, helping them develop a clear professional identity, define their clinical niche, and build a practice that reflects who they are and how they actually want to work with their ideal clients.
